spanish numbers question - I'm confused as usual

Trying to understand - in my text state that numbers expressing hundreds, you say number of hundreds and follow with the next number. Their examples:

ciento treinta y dos
quinientos cinco
ochocientos veintenuevo Why does this 829 NOT follow the other pattern? Why would it not be expressed as
ochocientos veinte y nuevo ???????????????????
novecientos cuarenta y siete
setecientos cincuenta y seis

The number should be:

ocho cientos veinte y nueve is correct. It does follow the pattern.

Be careful, nuevo is new, where as nueve is 9. Learning a language isn´t always easy. Keep at it. Don´t get frustrated. It is very gratifying when you are able to use your new language.

I am not sure the specific text book you are referring to, but like anything, there can be errors from time to time, even in text books. Prior to responding to your question again, I confirmed your question with one of our senior Spanish professors to make sure that I was absolutely correct.

The number should be ochocientos veinte y nueve.

I wish I could give you an answer as to why the text book made an error. Sorry.

Your logic is good. Have fun with the Spanish, it is a great language to learn.
